Time Fears the Pyramids
By Harvey Ingham

Men fear time, but time fears the pyramids - 12th c. Arabic proverb

We dove the Red Sea,
came in from Hurghada,
through the Valley of the Kings
to the Mena House in Giza,
relic of another vanished empire,
hotel that’s hosted Agatha Christie,
Conan Doyle, the Grateful Dead.

We step out into a darkness
massive, huger than night--
the shadow of the Great Pyramid,
desert pentahedron,
outside the fourth dimension,
perfection of form reveals the good.

So let time fear art and beauty
and fear the moral arc,
truer than geometry,
that brings down tyrants of today
to be fallen as Khufu and Menkaure
