POETRY   -
    WIth a Theme of Time

"eddies that slow and calm"

At the Hot Springs by the Rio Grande
by Jane Barrier

“Time lets its subtle depths half-open”
From “In the Heart of Time,”
                                 Coral Bracho

We peer, and (if luck buoys and bolsters)
give ourselves full to the flow

from the doors
now wide-open.

Arms by sides steady
the frantic slide into

eddies that slow and calm
beside earth pools.

warm springs caress your
naked body

asking it to bathe
in the slow--

to bathe in the
gold.

Jane Barrier is currently a retired computer programmer who has been living with MS for over 30 years. She enjoyed acting in local theaters until multiple sclerosis, diagnosed in 1990, curtailed her trodding the sidewalks, much less “the boards.” Thanks to OLLI instructors in poetry writing, and an offshoot group of students who formed to hear and comment on each others’ work, her feeling for poetry has been reinvigorated.
