Sure!  I can remember a few years back when I was young.  Well, OK, maybe a little bit more than a few years ago.  But, still, I can remember some things.

Can't you, Dear Reader?

The grass in everybody's lawns was turning a little green. After a long cold winter. With snow, and icy roads, and the coal bins for the furnaces in the peoples' basements nearing empty.  And Gus, the delivery man for Atlas Coal Company was limping a little when you would see him come into the Rochester Coffee Shop.  For his mid-morning break.

"Hey, Gus!" Maybelle, the longtime waitress at the coffee shop would yell out. "Ya got anything to keep me warm on these chilly nights?"

"Honey Chile," Gus would sometimes reply, "What I got, would give you a fever! And your old man wouldn't want you suffer that way agin."

Then, Maybelle would go up to Gus and give him a light kiss on his forehead. And they would both laugh.

I saw their act probably a hundred times when I was growing up in Rochester. Did you have any town characters like Gus and Maybelle? When you were growing up?
