The Day I Understood Why I Am Me
by Vivian Imperiale

There was nothing special about that day
until there was.
That was the day
it all came together for me
when I sat down and thought about Life.
I realized that much of what I do
is what my father had done.

He never talked about his endeavors.
He never coached me or encouraged me
to do what he did.
But, in time, everything was repeated in me--
the vocation, the elected positions,
the editing, the writing,
the public speaking and the poetry.

Genetics at play or, perhaps, osmosis.
