JOIN OUR EDITORIAL AND PRODUCTION TEAM

We invite Members of OLLI at SF State to help us publish our semi-annual issues of Vistas & Byways. Please review the following summary of the kinds of work we do, and, if interested, contact us with  your background information and any questions you may have.
 
When Do We Do It?​ 
Publishing an issue of Vistas & Byways, from receipt of the first contributor’s submission to the online launch, is a 3-month process. For our next issue, May 2026, this will be February through May 2026. We need assistance with a variety of tasks:
 
​Editorial:
Our Editorial Board receives, reviews and selects submissions for the issue. Then, it works with the accepted authors to prepare their work for publication, if any corrections are needed. Although each Board member is primarily responsible for a selection of works within specific genres, all literary editors are expected to read all the literary works submitted and attend 2 or 3 meetings of the Editorial Board to make acceptance decisions. The meetings are usually held on the Zoom meeting platform.
 
Additional editorial tasks include content writing for editorial and informational pages in the publication, copyediting and proofreading.
 
Online Publishing:
Our Webmasters use the online platform and website layout tools provided by Weebly.com and Square.com. The online publishing tasks include: digital page layout, adding photographs, photo editing and graphic design. Support:
We need help with publicity and promotion of our publication, administrative work, and organizing and catering our semi-annual launch parties.

Ways for You to Help​: 
If you are part of our core publishing team, as an Editorial Board member or an online editor or proofreader on our website, you will be engaged with the team, before and after your primary work, throughout the 3-month publishing period.
 
If you prefer a shorter commitment or can help with preparation or promotion activities before or after our main publishing periods, we welcome you to volunteer for the other editorial, online publishing and support opportunities we offer.
 
Inside OLLI Reporting:
You may wish to become a ‘reporter’ for V&B by contributing articles to this section of our publication. Possible topics include: interviews with OLLI instructors or staff; reviews of published books by members or instructors; and descriptions or reviews of events, creative projects or programs that members are involved in—or anything OLLI members might be interested in.
