Vistas & Byways Opportunities

What We Do

Publishing an issue of Vistas & Byways, from receipt of the first contributor’s submission to the online launch, is a three-month process. For our next issue, this will be February through April 2023. We need assistance with a variety of tasks—placement depends on interest and skills:

Editorial:
Our Editorial Board receives, reviews, and selects submissions for the issue, then works with authors to prepare them for publication. Though each Board member is primarily responsible for a selection of works within specific genres, all literary editors are expected to read all literary works and attend three or four  meetings of the Editorial Board to make decisions.

Additional editorial tasks include copy and content writing for editorial and informational pages in the publication, copyediting and proofreading.

Online Publishing:
In addition to website design and construction using the Weebly tools and platform, online publishing tasks include digital layout, photography, photo editing and graphic design. For more information, visit our web training and practice page at vbpractice.weebly.com

Support:
We need help with publicity and promotion, administrative work, data analytics, and organizing and catering our semi-annual launch parties.

Ways for You to Help

If you're part of our core publishing team, as an Editorial Board member or an online editor of our website, we will expect you to be engaged with the team, before and after your primary work, throughout the 3-month publishing period.

If you prefer a shorter commitment, or can help with preparation or promotion before or after our main publishing periods, we welcome you to volunteer for the many other editorial, online publishing and support opportunities we offer.

Inside OLLI ‘Reporting:’
We invite you to become a ‘reporter’ for V&B by contributing articles to this section. Possible topics include interviews with instructors or staff; reviews of published books by members or instructors; and descriptions or reviews of events, creative projects or programs that members are involved in—or anything OLLI members might be interested in.

How to Join

Please use our online contact form to send us a message with your interest. (To open the form, click the CONTACT THE V&B button at the bottom of any webpage on vbreview.org.)

Include your name, email address, and phone number.

Tell us a little bit about your interest and experience, including editing, writing, website design or construction, digital arts, photography, photo editing and marketing.

Thanks for your interest.
