BAY AREA NEIGHBORHOODS

From Sea Dreams to Shining Sea
(the tiled steps on Moraga Street in San Francisco)

A Visual Tour
by Mike Lambert

Picture

On Moraga Street in the Sunset District of San Francisco,
there is a remarkable art display.

Picture

The neighbors collaborated in 2003 to build
a set of steps between 16th and 15th Avenues
with a dreamy oceanic design.

Picture

The design evokes images of sea dragons.

Picture

Small sea creatures exist there, too.

Picture

Tributes to Mom and other neighborhood friends
are included.

Picture

Luxurious plants on the side contribute to the scenery.

Picture

With an explanation of the merge of art and nature.

Picture

The Shining Sea to the West can be seen from
the top of the steps.
Will the sea creatures return home when the sea rises?
Shall we hope so?
