Ode to My Snooze Alarm
by MJ Moore

let me sing in praise
of snooze alarms
the naughty promise of
delicious sleep
a few minutes and
a few minutes
more

how graciously the button
grants reprieve from what
my body resists--
the end of rest
the beginning of time measured
in chores, fretting, guilt
over things done and said
left undone
unsaid

oh to snooze
perchance to dream
aye there’s the grub
a feast of crisp crullers
and aromatic coffee
sans calories
sans heartburn

to dream, chase after,
be chased, fly or fall
without penalty
of smacking the sidewalk
or hitting a brick wall

all praise to the button timed
to procrastinator’s pulse
nothing won’t wait
a few minutes and
a few minutes
more
