Bird Stories

​Robin sings rock about harbingers of spring,
Seagull pens poems about fish, on the wing,
Cuckoo acts plays about stealing nests,
And Hummingbird writes flighty songs in jest.
Eagle reports on national events,
Blue Jay squawks re: picnics he’s visited,
Rooster crows to new-born chicks, 
And Pelican fibs about the size of her catch.
Owl posts philosophy, but who gives a hoot? 
 Duck declares: “Please don’t shoot!” 
Raven brags acrobatics in mid-air, 
And Parrot prints shopping guides to Union Square.

​​Daniel Raskin is a retired preschool teacher. He lives in Bernal Heights. Daniel writes with The Older Writers Laboratory at the Bernal library, The MERI Center at UCSF and Laguna Writers.
