The Music Guides Them    -    picture by Margaret Burnett

Two Songs
by David A. Scott

Picture

Neighbors dancing in circles
with fingers intertwined,
one fiddler between them
playing a tune
for everyone to follow.

The music guides them
as they move and step together,
feeling what that brings.

We dance to
a heart song of caring and compassion,
or the dirge of fear and judgement--
two songs that lead us
in opposite directions.

Which one are you embracing now?
