A well-organized navigation system is essential to attract visitors to a website and direct them to the content offered. When planning navigation, it is important to consider the kind of experience you want visitors to have on the site.  Vistas &Byways is an online literary journal published by a group of readers and writers who came of age before the digital era. From the beginning, we tried to replicate the look and feel of a print publication, with a cover, tables of content, and each literary work presented on a separate webpage.  We wanted to give readers navigating our website the ability to thumb through and revisit the pages, as one might a favorite magazine. We use the built-in navigation menu, a few buttons and many text links from page to page, tables of contents, and contributor bios to create a variety of paths for readers to find their way around our pages.

Navigation Menu
The navigation menu at the top of the page is controlled by the page settings and arrangement on the page list. Like an outline header menu is made up of pages on the far left of the list, submenus those indented under each header label, and so forth. To hide pages that should not appear on the navigation menu, check the "Hide in Navigation" box in the page settings.
